Logo design – how is a symbol created that distinguishes a brand?
A logo is the foundation of every brand's visual identity. It makes a company recognisable and builds positive associations among consumers. But what does the process of creating a logo look like?
At Diea, every logo design is a precisely planned process that we carry out step by step – from the first sketch to the final files ready for use.
Below are the stages of logo design that help us create aesthetic, functional and brand-appropriate logos.
1. Needs analysis and brief

We start every logo design with a brief, a document that allows us to understand the brand's mission, values and goals. This is a key moment when we find out:
- Who is the client? – What products/services do they offer? What is their character and personality?
- What is their target audience? – Who should the logo appeal to and what emotions should it evoke?
- What are their aesthetic preferences? – Colours, shapes, graphic style that suits the brand.
- Are there any restrictions? – E.g. the need to refer to the previous visual identity.
A well-prepared brief is the basis for further action, as it avoids misunderstandings and puts the project on the right track from the very beginning.
2. Market research and analysis

Before we start sketching our first ideas, we conduct research to help us create a logo that stands out from the competition. At this stage, we analyse:
- Competitors' logos – What do they look like? What should be avoided in order not to create a similar logo?
- Logo design trends – Should the brand follow current trends or opt for a timeless design?
- The psychology of colours and shapes – Each colour and form carries specific associations and emotions. Choosing the right elements based on colour psychology is key to the logo's message.
This stage allows us to set a unique direction for the design that not only looks good but also communicates the right brand values. It is worth noting that a logo and a logotype are not the same thing. If you want to know how they differ, be sure to read our article Logo vs. logotype.
3. Concept and presentation of the design

After analysing the market and brand strategy, we move on to the most interesting stage – creating graphic concepts. Designers work on various ideas, which we then select to present the best proposal to the client.
- We create sketches and draft versions of the logo – We start with drawings on paper or digital sketches.
- We select typography, colours and layout – We experiment to find the best visual combination.
- We test scalability and legibility – The logo must look good on both a business card and a billboard.
As standard, we prepare one refined and well-thought-out proposal, which we then open up for revisions. We know that a well-conducted briefing stage and a detailed analysis of requirements will allow us to develop the optimal design. Upon request, we can prepare more proposals, but each one increases the price of the order – each additional design means additional work from concept to execution.
4. Revision cycle
Logo design is a collaborative process with the client, so after the first presentation, we give you time to consider the proposal and gather comments. At this stage:
- The client provides feedback – They indicate elements for improvement, possible changes in colour, layout or shape.
- We make modifications – We refine the logo so that it best reflects the brand's identity.
We usually go through 1-3 rounds of revisions to ensure that the final design meets all of the client's expectations.
5. Finalisation and delivery of files

Once the final version of the logo has been approved, we proceed to prepare the final files.
- We export the logo in various formats – We deliver vector files (SVG, AI/CDR, EPS) and raster files (PNG, JPG) in various colour versions.
- We create a brand book – a document containing the rules for using the logo, e.g. acceptable backgrounds, logo versions (e.g. monochrome), or the protective field and basic field of the mark. This is an optional step, but it is strongly recommended in order to know how to use the logo properly in every situation.
The finished logo is just the beginning! The client can now build a consistent visual identity based on the new mark, which will become the foundation of their branding.
Summary
Logo design is a process that requires strategy, analysis and precision to create a mark that is not only aesthetic but also functional. At Diea, we take care of every stage – from the brief, through research, to the finalisation of the project, so that every brand can enjoy a professional and distinctive logo.
